About the Comic
The Beginning
Dunfall Comix was originally launched sometime in the summer of 2001 – we think.
The early history of the comic is vague, and much like many of the early comics themselves, unfunny and not all that interesting to anyone who wasn’t there at the time.
It was, predominantly, a journal-style comic, in that the dialog and events were – loosely – based on actual dialog and events which I found myself in on a near daily basis. Obviously, in comic form, they are taken to the absurdest extreme.
The cast grew over time to encompass odd caricatures of those around me and those whom I considered close friends – many of them readers themselves. Although there is no long-standing continuity within the comic, the cast eventually began to develop their own trademarks and characterizations, often differing wildly from those upon whom they were originally based.
The Middle Ages
At it’s peak, Dunfall Comix was read by hundreds of people a day, with tens of people demanding updates on an ever increasing scale. Random people would actually recognize the artwork, and comment on it to me as I went about my daily life.
It wasn’t stardom, but it suited me just fine. There were people, people I didn’t know, finding and reading and enjoying this little creation of mine. It had found a life of it’s own, and it was growing and thriving.
For a while, at least.
The Decline
Somewhere around it’s fourth year in existence, the comic began to be updated less and less frequently – time constraints and other personal life issues were forcing attention to be diverted away from such frivolous endeavors.
As the updates decreased in regularity, so too did the readership, until the only persons reading the comic were those who had tiny, broken avatars within.
Finally, in late 2006, the last comic of that era was uploaded to the server. It wasn’t meant to be the last comic, but events conspired to make it so. Personal life finally won out over the diversion, and comic was put on hiatus, later to be deemed dead.
The Rebirth
Eventually, I began to wonder about the comic, and others – new friends and acquaintances – began to show interest in what had come before, and began asking if there might be something new on the horizon. For a while, I turned them away saying that it was dead, or that I wasn’t sure if there were any more jokes to be made that way…
Until, one day, I hit upon an idea that made me laugh. I could see the comic, hear the joke, and I knew that it was time to give it another go.
So, here it is – Dunfall Comix Season Three. Updates should be weekly, sometime on Fridays.
